Being an ambitious empath myself, I get it! Helping others and maintaining your own energy levels simultaneously can be tricky at times, especially when you may be picking up on other peoples’ emotions, feelings and even pain, with or without your knowledge!

As a Reiki Master Teacher, I have used Reiki to support my own energy levels whilst helping others, and as an empath, I have received tremendous benefits by using Reiki in my self-care practices.

What is Reiki?

How can you use Reiki in your self-care as an Empath?

Reiki is a powerful energy clearer, so when you notice that you’ve absorbed or collected emotions and feelings from another person, or situation, activate the Reiki energy alongside the Reiki Ideals and allow yourself to receive Reiki energy through your crown chakra and flush through your whole body from tip to toe with a bright, white healing light. If you are not attuned to activate the Reiki energy, head here to find out how you can do that.

Using your hands, with the Reiki energy, activate the two in-person symbols within your hands with the intention of clearing and releasing any energy that is not yours to hold. Place your hands on any areas you may be feeling dis-ease or disharmony as a result of picking up on others’ emotions. You may notice heat, cold, or tingling as you do this. Allow your hands to stay there until you notice changes within the sensations you are feeling. Alternatively, you can activate the ‘many hands technique’ to allow your whole body to receive the Reiki healing in a super comforting, soothing way.

The Kenyoku technique, one of the powerful Japanese Reiki Techniques, is classed as a ‘dry shower’. With Reiki activated, sweep your hands across your body from shoulders to hips and down each arm, down the legs and down to your feet. This moves and shifts energy, in a sweeping style out through your hands and feet, so it is not contained in your body. This is useful as an empath as it means you are releasing energies, emotions, feelings and sensations that aren’t yours to be working with.
