What happens during a Reiki Session?

Hi everyone!  I'm Leila, your online Intuitive Life and Business Coach!  I love nothing more than supporting women who are empaths, intuitives, healers, holistic therapists and spiritual coaches to fulfil their soul's purpose with unstoppable confidence and ease by clearing out the subconscious and energy obstacles that are in your way around your incredible abilities, making money, having success and maintaining your energy levels and health.

A huge part of my coaching business uses Reiki, with my clients to help them identify and amplify their intuitive abilities, and I also teach Reiki to others so they can expand their skillset in their own healing and spiritual businesses.

As a Reiki Master and Teacher, you may have guessed that Reiki is a huge part of my every day life and it has helped me in all the ways I have shared already in the previous blogs you may have read! (You can catch up with them all here though if you haven't!)

Reiki is a traditional Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation and it promotes healing within the body.  In a hands on or off approach, Reiki sessions are versatile and powerful enough to be carried out on recipients fully clothed, seated, lying, at a distance and at any time.

There are 2 main ways to carry out a Reiki session, in person and distance.  They kind of do what they say on the tin, one is with the recipient in the same room as you, the other is done remotely, with you in one location and the other person somewhere else in the world.  I'll be talking more about distance Reiki sessions in another blog!

I've predominantly become a distance Reiki practitioner and teacher for a few reasons:

  1. I have a passion for working with and helping people on a grand scale, from all over the world and in all different timezones

  2. I love the power of channeling Reiki energy through the airwaves-there feels like a spectacular increase in energy healing when recipients are in their own home and able to relax in their own environment!

  3. I love the potential to be travelling around the world, whilst still working remotely and at a distance with my clients-that feels like freedom to me!

As briefly as I can, here's what happens during an in person Reiki session:

Reiki is an easy healing technique to use. After receiving the Reiki attunement (you can learn more about Reiki attunements here), all that is necessary to start Reiki flowing is to request it to do so.

I encourage all my Reiki students to find their own specific unique style when it comes to giving Reiki sessions.  This allows them to find their own inner confidence and self belief when it comes to trusting their intuition.  For this reason, what I share below may vary from practitioner practitioner.

Once you are sitting or lying comfortably, the Reiki practitioner will take a few moments to activate the Reiki energy and allow you to relax even further.

After a short intention setting, you may become aware of your practitioner's hands along your shoulders as they are connecting and starting to allow the Reiki energy to flow.  At times, their hands maybe nowhere near your body, but you may still feel their presence!

Throughout the session, your Reiki practitioner may be moving all around your body, they may also be scanning your aura, all using something we call the 'many hands technique'.

You and the practitioner may feel warm, relaxing sensations in other areas of the body other than where their hands are placed.  This is the holistic approach, the whole body perspective to healing.  Reiki healing operates from a higher consciousness, which knows that for example, if you have a pain in your knee, there may be physical challenges or unresolved emotions that are connecting with your back, shoulders, your hips possibly, even your ankles, so whole-body approach is really powerful in a Reiki session.

A Reiki practitioner is always using their intuition and allowing their intuition to guide them to the best place to treat the condition you have, or to maximise the benefits based on why you decided to receive the Reiki session.

Reiki sessions can vary between 15 to 20 minutes, right through to 90 minutes long.  You can never give too little or too much Reiki, even a short session can be incredibly powerful.

After the session has finished, the practitioner may scan your aura once more, to check and assess where energy is now flowing where it was once stuck, where blockages cleared, or melted away.  Then they may return back to your shoulders, allowing you to bathe and relax in the Reiki energy for a little longer, before disconnecting and allowing you to slowly and gently wake up from your relaxation.

After your Reiki session, you will feel relaxed, uplifted, relief from any pain or symptoms you came with, Plus you'll feel energised, focused and just have a sense of wellbeing.

What's not to love about Reiki?!
